My overall experience in ED 480 was very helpful for me when I become a classroom teacher. I learned so much activities I can do by integrating technology. I know some of the software that was presented, but it never came to my mind how it can relate to teaching. The ones I would use in the classroom is weebly. I really liked the weebly because I can have students create a blog or a journal through the use of technology. I can also use weebly as a class autobiography. I can have a weebly site just for autobiography and have each students share things about themselves. I can also use weebly to make my students create a professional portfolio. Its never too late to start a professional portfolio. Another software we used was the Elimuniate Live. I did find this software fun but if it was a 3 hour just doing eluminate live, I feel that I could loose my students interest. Overall, the class was great. I have learned so much in this class. I have learned so many ways to implement technology in all content areas. This class is very helpful especially for teachers in training. I LOVE THIS CLASS!

Video Presentation

Today, May 16th 2009, Our group (Lathania, Anna, Chasmyn, and I) had to do a video presentation or a commercial by advertising a website. At first, our group choose to do Flicker. But, since we wanted to make it more educational and more useful for us to use in the classroom; we did a puppet video presentation. We did a puppet show on "The Boy Who Cried Wolf". We had fun just acting out the play. Then, when it came to editing. We didn't know what software to use, so instead we used the Movie Clipper. As soon as we were finish editing, we had to upload it to the given websites. Our group had trouble uploading our project. After many tries Anna had, we just decided to use whatever we have. I think this project will be fun and interesting to do in the classroom. I believe students will enjoy themselves when recording or also doing a commercial. In fact, they will learn so much through the use of technology. GREAT ACTIVITY!

Weebly Software

In our class, we were required to try out the Weebly software. I really find this software very interesting and fun. As for our class, we had to create a Professional Portfolio which was great. But I do see so many advantages that can be used in this software. You can create a Biography Page for students to get to know each other. You can have students talk about themselves. You can also use this software as a Learning Center Technology. I love this website and I find it very useful for teachers.

Today (April 18 2009), we used Elluminate Live to listen to different guest speakers that are introducing different softwares and technologies to used in the classroom. The topic I found so exciting is the one Mary Ann Campo introducing Twitter Deck. What is it? TweetDeck is a personal browser for staying in touch with what’s happening now, connecting you with your contacts across Twitter, Facebook and more. TweetDeck shows you everything you want to see at once, so you can stay organized and up to date. Some things you can do with TweetDeck is to stay updated, create your own personal dashboard, share videos and photos and more...

This link is very useful for teachers like us so that we can always get connected with our classmates. This link helps us stay connected when we need help in any situation. For instance, I am having trouble with one of my student and probably classroom management is my problem. I tried everything but nothing works. So as a TweetDeck, it helps me get in touch with my classmates to ask for advice.

Elluminate Live Evaluation

Today (April 18th 2009), our class successfully entered the Elluminate Live. Elluminate Live is an online conferencing system that allows you to meet with other people in a meeting room. I do find this online software very interesting and fun. However, what I didn't enjoy is that fact that we have a 3 hour class and we had to use Eluminate Live. Using the headset for 3 hours was irritating for me. I did enjoy it but just to sit down on a computer and listen for 3 hours wasn't fun. The software is fun only if there is more student and teacher interactions. One advantage I find from this software is if a teacher wants a guest speaker from off island to teach a specific topic, this tool is one way of getting the students connected with someone off island. Likewise, if a quest speaker cannot make it to a meeting, Elluminate Live is another advantage. I do find this beneficial for teachers especially when teachers cannot make it to school. Elluminate Live is one tool teachers and students can use to keep in touch.

How Elluminate Live will be used in my classroom? Basically, I would use it when I need a professional to present information from a specific topic. For instance, Social Studies; we are learning about a country like Mexico and its government. I can try and contact the government office and find someone to who would be interested in explaining how the government is like in Mexico. Then, my students and that guest speaker can use Elluminate Live. Here, students can also ask questions if they don't understand anything or they want to know more about the government. I would use Elluminate Live when it comes to guest speakers from off-island or on-islands (people who cannot show up to our school).

Overall, Elluminate Live is a useful tool for teachers in many subject areas when it comes to looking for guest speakers. Love it!

Using Technology in the Science Curriculum-Presentation

I had gain an experience of using slideshare to post my presentation. I find it very useful because I didn't have to worry about bringing in a flashdrive to present my work because it has already been uploaded in the URL. However my challenge to this experience is that I had no clue of uploading my presentation. It sort of gave me a hard time as to where should I go and what do I do next. So, instead, I had to ask some of my fellow classmates how I could upload my presentation. Basically, I was not familiar with the whole www.slideshare.net website. Therefore, this presentation and this new experience will help me especially in saving more space in my USB when doing powerpoint presentation. I also find it useful because I can always upload all my powerpoints and whenever I need them, I can always find it in slideshare.

My presentation is sort of unorganized, so the next time I upload a powerpoint; I would make it more detailed and more neat so that others can veiw them and look to it as a useful tool to them.

Picture Presentation on Software

Today, on February 28, 2009, our group (#3) worked on Picture Trail for our picture presentation software. Using picture trail, we had to create a story on content that is appropriate for all children. So, our group created a story on Leprechaun. In the story, the leprechaun loves silver so every silver he sees are the college campus, he must have. The story is very funny, interesting, and also teaches a moral lesson. This story is appropriate for all children because it teaches a moral lesson that "stealers can always get caught". I find this software very useful because as teachers in training, we may want to create a story using technology to present it. Love the activity!!!

Timeline Online Software

I find this timeline very useful because as a teacher-in training, timelines are very important. Timelines are used in all content areas. One benefit I encounter is that this software is easily accessible that I can always create a timeline on any subject I want to focus on. However, I find this software a bit lame because the time-line cannot be saved online. As a teacher, we may encounter times where we need to go back to check on an activity. Maybe this activity can be used for the next school year. As teachers, we don't want to always do things over and over again. So it would be easy if our timelines can be saved.

Web Quest Online Software

For Class last Saturday (2/7/2009), Our group had to work on Web Quest. This software is somewhat like a learning center because the teacher provides an activity that students can access through the use of technology. So, our assignment is to create our own Web Quest and we focus on the theme “Animals”. Our group chooses “Animals” because students would be interested in understanding how animals are being classified. Our student learning outcomes mainly focuses on students identify feature of a specific type of animal. The way our assignment is being broken down is by classifying the different types of animals such as reptiles, amphibians, birds, etc… The students will do a research on a given animal category. As students conduct their research, they will be assessed on how they present their work. Using Web Quest will improve student learning by giving them motivation. Students may be tired of lectures so instead; the teacher just delivers the lesson through Web Quest. Basically, I like this software because a teacher can be absent from school but still work on the Web Quest for students to access their assignment.

Online Puzzles

Today, we had to create a Crossword Puzzle and a Word Search Puzzle Software from online. I really like these Software because its easy to make, less time consuming because it only takes less than 10 minutes, and its fun to create. These sites will be helpful for us teachers-in-training because we can always provide activities for students who are finish with their assignments. However, the most useful puzzle I will use in the classroom is the Cross Word because its effective when implementing critical thinking in the classroom. On the other hand, Word Search Puzzle is a good tool because it offers you more options. You can also add a title to your puzzle and you could also add more than one word to find.

Basically, online puzzle is helpful for students when using their critical thinking. It opens up their mind to think and especially helps them focus on a word when finding it. This software helps teacher especially when providing activities for learning centers.

Online Word Processing Software

Today we were broken down into 3 groups. Each group has to research an Online Processing Software. My group, which is Group 2, had to research buzzword.com. There are a few advantages and disadvantages about the software, one advantage is that it does not take any spaces from the users hard drive. All documents that were being saved in their program. Another advantage is that the user can share documents to other users. On the other hand, the disadvantages our group encounter is that not all users can access this software because not all computers have acrobat. Secondly, we found that this software is very slow to load or even to log in to. As we explore the software, we found that the features were very limited just like an email. So, as a team, we all rate buzzword.com as 5 out of 10.

However, this software is useful in the classroom. How I would use it is, when I need to send out informations to the students, I can use this simple software to type what ever information I want to send out. My students have the responsibility for always checking into the software to see what is being posted. This software will really help classroom teacher especially when it comes to storage spaces in hard drives.

Overall, the lesson being taught today is very interesting as to having to explore the different word processing software.
